Maria Downs
Maria Downs is charting new horizons as a student in Indiana Wesleyan University’s Aviation program. Her journey into aviation was not born from a childhood dream but rather from an opportunity that arose at the close of her junior year in high school. Initially, Maria explored various colleges, grappling with the steep costs of higher education and the uncertainty of committing to a career path she lacked passion for. Reflecting on her challenges, Maria shared, “Without the Aviation program, I would most likely be waitressing. Pursuing college without a clear direction wasn’t financially realistic.” Thanks to the Aviation Management program, which has since transitioned to HC3, Maria’s trajectory took a dramatic turn. Today, she stands as a certified pilot, steadily advancing toward completing her degree. – Maria Downs, 2024 Mt. Vernon High School Graduate
